How to add sitemap.xml and robots.txt to a Lovable app
Without a sitemap.xml, Google is slow to discover your app's pages. Here's what goes in the sitemap and robots.txt, and how to generate them at build time.
Why it happens
sitemap.xml is the list of pages you want on Google. robots.txt tells search engines and AI crawlers what they may access and where the sitemap lives.
AI-generated projects rarely ship with these files. In an SPA it's worse: without links in the HTML, Google has fewer ways to discover your pages on its own.
How to check your app
- Visit yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml and yourdomain.com/robots.txt in your browser.
- If you see your app instead of an XML or text file, the files don't exist: the SPA is answering every URL with index.html.
- In Google Search Console, submit the sitemap and track how many pages get indexed.
How to fix it
Generate /sitemap.xml at build time listing every public route (absolute URLs) and reference it in robots.txt with 'Sitemap: <url>'.
